If you've been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension) or heart failure, your doctor may prescribe ATACAND to help manage your condition. ATACAND is used to treat high blood pressure. ATACAND is also used to treat patients with Class II, III, or IV heart failure (as defined by the New York Heart Association classification) when they have symptoms of heart failure and have reduced heart pump function. ATACAND belongs to a family of medications known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). This type of medication stops a hormone called angiotensin II from attaching to your blood vessels. Angiotensin II normally causes arteries to narrow. As a result, the blood vessels relax and widen, and your blood pressure is reduced. |
