Future of Search

We all know that the big three currently dominate search. However, the future of search does not lie with the big three engines (Google, Yahoo or MSN). Thinking outside the box, it is strongly believed that niche search will keep the search business growing. For example, if you needed to find a particular bit torrent, would you choose between using Google.com or YouTorrent.com? Google and other search engines will always have a place in the hearts of general searchers / masses who are not particularly search savvy, while specialized niche search engines will grow because their results are better filtered and the searchers who use them know exactly what they are looking for.

Nice post. Really we usually use Google don’t even think if it find exactly what we need. Because it’s popular. But, of course, it’s bettter for general search. If you need something very special it can’t help you better then special search engines.

Let’s be honest, it’s no longer the big 3, but the big 1 1/2. MSN is like under 5% of the traffic nowadays so too small to be included.

    I haven’t heard of YouTorrent.com but I’ll have a look now.

I have analysed the traffic of my competition and I get a lot more traffic (and I mean good traffic) than they do even though I have much lower position on the big search engines. Nowadays, a lot of people find my site from other forms of web-marketing, like through articles that I have submitted. Having high Google positioning is good, but it’s not as important as you might think.

The recent break-up of talks between Yahoo and Microsoft, followed by the even more recent talks of a possible buy-out of Yahoo by Google, may mean that we will soon be talking about the big 1, the universally massive Google.
