Plen

Plen Robot has gone mainstream and picked up as a YouTube featured video. There’s plen-ty of information on the Plen Bot since Systec Akazawa offers it to the general public at two hundred fifty thousand zen (the equivalent of two thousand US dollars and more). As a nine inch bluetooth controlled hobby robot, it has the abilities to skate board, roller-skate, pick up small objects, and hang out with fellow Plens in organized Plen fight tournaments (the future of robot wars?)

Plen Robot

In addition to being so close to human like in its movements, Plen can also stand up by itself when it falls down. Below is a list of sites where you can see more of the robot in action, or review it specs and pricing.

  • http://www.plen.jp/ - Official Plen Website in Japanese providing information how you program its movements through your computer. Then controlling the robot from a bluetooth mobile phone. Its range of motions include basic walking, rollerskating, and skateboarding. It also features Plen in high quality Flash SWF videos in the gallery tab (you must click the Plen thumbnails to start the video).
  • http://www.robot-fan.net/spot/spot081.html - Robot website featuring a large Windows Media file of Plen in an exhibition show where it picks up a block, and kicks it around after throwing it to the side. You will also catch of glimpse of it falling down face first and getting back up on its feet. The media file is quite large and takes a while to load.
  • http://youtube.com/watch?v=HBIW7As0nxM - Low quality YouTube video of Plen Flash SWF video stripped from the official Japanese Akazawa website.
