Pagerank is a Joke
Published November 12th, 2007 in Search ManipulationI love how people pay so much attention pagerank especially when it has degraded to such a big joke. One site in particular that I have optimized for earlier in the year and haven’t touched in months all of a sudden got assigned a PR 5. Totally unexpected with the way Google continues to assign page rank on a random basis. Another story from a colleague is that his friend put up a totally new website without any kind of link development and ranked a PR 4 in two weeks.
Pagerank is a joke people. Focus on your search positions instead.
Heard on another blog about the Pagerank joke. http://andybeard.eu/
Consensus has it that the manual penalty is a peek under the hood at how much Google has lost control and credibility over pagerank. One day Google may control the world, just not yet. In the mean time do what you have to do to get site traffic from other sources, via text links, media display, forum postings, blog comments, article submissions, press releases, ppc, yahoo, msn and even word of mouth.
Continue to do what you do best to increase website traffic, not website pagerank because it has turn into such a bad joke among the blog community.

Google has fully removed pagerank for this site which is well deserved because who’s really linking to it besides a couple of directories, and blog exchanges.
What’s funny is that natural search traffic continues to grow as new pages are constantly being indexed. And it even makes a little bit of money for a totally free directory. Shocking right?
Why does Google even bother with pagerank? Only webmasters or anyone with a decent amount of interest of the internet even care about it. Or when you need to sound smart when talking to a client, and pull an esoteric term out of the air to confuse them.
Pagerank is a big joke for websites that tend to generate lots of content and can maintain their own rankings in the search engine results.
If I can rank a website for its coveted term with a number 1 position in Google when the website is new and assigned a PR3. You can only guess how little pagerank matters in real rankings. However, I am not completely discounting that pagerank continues to play a part in SERP, just to say focus on your keyword rankings and sleep on whatever pagerank Google assigns you.
Am I mad that this directory ranks 0 at the moment? No. Not at all, even the best directories got a slap in the face. If Google was the take away the manual -4 penalty for all sites categorized as a directory, this site’s link is worth at least a PR4.
