Google Updates Miserable Failure
Published February 4th, 2007 in Search ManipulationThis is old news. Google updated the top search results for miserable failure and programmed the current search algorithm to remove the direct link to George W Bush’s profile on the official Whitehouse website. Google-bombing should have been easy to prevent by instructing the indexing bot agent to match the link text to the context of the designated page, if it does not match any on-page content, then discount the anchor text.
Where as if the official George Bush biography had the term miserable failure encased in H1 tags, it would have made the search more relevant. Regardless of how Google dictates to the internet community that Bush is no longer synonymous to miserable failure, Google users already know the true answers.
It may be correct to start assuming that Google future algorithms will put more weight on content than anchor text. However, if your site has the appropriate content working in conjunction with good anchor text, it may advance even higher and faster in today’s search engine results.
