DMOZ, a Directory Dinosaur
Published August 9th, 2007 in Directory TalkEveryone has heard of DMOZ as the open directory project but due to neglect and editorial abuse by the chosen few, it is merely in existence by name and people care less for it than ever, except the search engines still like it.
Pros:
- It passes great pagerank
- Everyone and their mom wants to get on
Cons:
- Wait list an eternity
- Greedy editors who take cash to list your website
- Outdated listings
See how little love DMOZ get from webmaster who depend on directories at the directory critic scoring a 51 as of this entry. Read some of the reviews, it is absolutely awful and a dinosaur in terms of directories.
Update 09/24/2007: DMOZ penalized by Google for inactivity and webmaster complaints of editors taking bribes to list certain websites. It no longer ranks number one for DMOZ, nor Open Directory Project.

Couldn’t agree with you more. Dmoz is in the dumps in terms of approving websites. It used to be the authority but doubt it will ever come close to its old reputation.
