Affiliate Marketing vs AdSense

To this day, the affiliate links on this website is generating more money than Google AdSense by a multiple of four to one. AdSense is not in anyways bad, just not great when targeting webmasters or directory owners. As an individual who do run ads on Google, I am less inclined to click on any ads served by Google or any other services. Instead, I would open up a new browser and enter the displayed URL into the address field because I know that every click on the ad will cost the advertiser money. Maybe that is just me.

Where as when I see an affiliate link on a website, I do not mine clicking on them because it is usually a CPA (cost per action / acquisition) model where the advertiser is tracking where the traffic is coming from and only pay the affiliate once the click converts to a paying customer. At first the conversions may be low considering the amount of clicks your affiliate program displays in the report. However, that one click can convert to ten dollars and more when they do convert from the persistent cookie already set by the program your website is promoting.

One downside is that affiliate banners and links do not provide the same ad relevance for the target articles or user generated content. It is always best to experiment with different ad types and ad placements to find the perfect balance to maximize the monetary return of your website.
