Kramer Apology on Letterman

Note to reader: n-word and profanity will be spelled out completely for blog entry to be more effective.

I just finished watching the satellite feed of Kramer making an apology on Letterman. I commend Seinfeld for allowing his friend the opportunity to make the apology on a national televised program.

However, Kramer’s apology did not come out sincere even though he was deeply troubled as his message was cluttered with references to Katrina (Bush people already took notes on that mention for putting salt into old wounds; maybe Kanye West said it best: “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”) and the national racial divide of white and blacks existing in America today. What he did at the Laugh Factory has nothing to do with these two issues. It is a very personal issue that he has to deal with that cannot be blamed on any other social issues.

What’s more troubling than the n-word usage is that he visualized “Fifty years ago, we’d have you upside down with a fucking fork up your ass.” Fifty years ago, racial segregation was very much alive in America so he knew exactly what he was referencing to before nigger was yelled out multiple times.

Mr. Kramer, this is America and if you are white then you have never experienced any type of discrimination nor prejudice. There are no derogatory terms for white people even close to the equivalent of calling a black person - nigger, Hispanic person - spic, Chinese person - chink, or darker person - Macaca (George Allen trying to amuse an all white audience at the expense of a nonwhite face from the Webb campaign and led to the downfall of his senate re-election and possible presidential nominee hopes). Honestly, do you feel insulted when someone calls you cracker? How does it even compare?

The first and last time I have utter nigger at a black person was in the sixth grade towards a classmate and his friend. Then his friend smacked me hard on the side of the head and stunned me. I was a stupid kid and did not know better that the n-word is a very hurtful word from one sixth grader to another sixth grader to make them to hit you. That was almost twenty years ago.

You have a lot of “personal work” ahead of you. Good luck.
