Hopefully not, selling hair is more common than taboo. To no surprise, the internet facilitates the hair trade. So how do you sell your hair for money? If you can’t tie a pony and produce a lock longer than twelve inches, then it is not worth much.
- People Auctioning Hair - the best set of pictures of people selling their long beautiful hair. Some asking bids range from five hundred to one thousand dollars. Placing an ad to sell your hair cost twenty dollars for an individual and fifty dollars for corporate sales. The Korean woman had the most beautiful hair shiny full hair I have ever seen. (Do not forget to visit their hair jewelry section.)
- Hair Collector / Exporter - corporate human hair exporter dealing with collection, sorting and quality processing until the hair is delivered to your door from Russian and European countries. You get a sense that long hair is a business.
- Search for Better Hair - article on one person’s search for fuller hair turning into a profitable hair augmentation business.

Hair is not my specialty nor do I even think about it one bit, but found the sites interesting when doing a back links building project for a client and ended up spending a couple of hours looking over different stories on hair, people selling hair, and specialized hair collectors. At first I thought it was weird, but got over the shock pretty fast as you find that most collected hair are used for wigs and nothing more.
The concept of people buying human hair was scary but it turns out to be a heavily traded commodity when digging deeper into the human hair business because there people worldwide selling hair for money and human hair buyers who pay perfectly good money for the long shiny locks of hair. As to address how to sell your hair, you can pay twenty dollars and place an ad. Or wait for this blog entry on selling hair to rank well for “hair for sale” and “sell hair”; then you can leave your hair ad for free in the comments box.

Although I have heard one of my local salons buys hair from customers having a cut, have it washed and treated and then use it in extensions… nice!
I know exactly what you mean, strange that many of us don’t know these things about selling hair for money unless we have dealt with it. Hopefully the shock factor has switch over to the awe factor now.

I’ve heard of locks of love, and think that’s a great idea. I never realized people were selling their hair…wild. As for me, I don’t have the patience to grow it out long enough.

The plugin is called Peters Anti Spam. Very simple install, just upload the files to your plugin folder and activate. Then you can edit the “words” to anything you want.

There’s a good side to all this. My daughters recently helped a close friend pick out a wig. Their friend had just been diagnosed with cancer and was starting chemo. The wig, and the three of them spending time together selecting it, lifted her spirits tremendously. Now my daughters want to donate hair to help someone else in that situation.
Brad, thanks for sharing. There’s a lot of good stories behind hair. I originally searched hair for sale when writing the blog, but now if I searched for the term hair donation - a lot of good sites come up as you hinted that “there’s a good side to all of this”.
Like most others posting, I’ve heard of locks for love projects. My niece donated her hair (20 inches of it) to a charity. Didn’t the Today Show or some other morning program do a segment on it - with one of the hosts having her hair cut on air?

If one is cutting her spectacular locks anyway, I have no problem with selling. But for a woman whose hair is priceless to *her*, a few hundred or even thousand bucks for a sale does not add up to much compared to the time it took to grow and caress. This can be unbearably sad. If Rapunzel tresses are treasured by the owner, she should think long and hard before cutting. “My hair *used* to be that beautiful” can be melancholy words indeed.
BTW, my wife will NOT be chopping her LONG hair, (she’s 47!), either for sale or for some phony charity that is drowning in ponytail donations already. Bob

Looks like many people are selling their hair and then donating the money where they chose. I’ve noticed there’s many college students selling their hair too.. I have worn human hair weaves for years. This September I just could not put another hair piece in my head until I knew the source of all the human hair being sold and worn all around me. I just kept having pictures of women being dragged off the streets of Asia, and third-world countries being shaved against their wills. I am thankful for this article that gives me some confort in knowing that I might have helped the economy of some of these countries as well as helped domr gsmilird make some extra money. Having “Virgin” hair has nothing to do with sex, directly. Look up the word: virgin. The word in most cases means unused, untreated, never used, never processed, etc.
Whether it is hair, sex, olive oil or anything else: if it says virgin, it usually means some common step, process, or stage has not been taken at that point in time and as such can be more valuable, in newer condition, or less likely to cause the applicable problem(s), limitations, et cetera, associated with use or processing, as commonly applicable in that field.

I have a minimum of 10″ of hair to sell. It is virgin, darker blonde w/ light blonde and auburn highlights. I have never smoked, drank alcohol or did drugs. I will be cutting it this month; and depending on the cut I get, I could have an additional 1-2″ inches added to the already 10″. I am looking to get $100 or best offer for it.

Locks of love sells the wigs they create from dontated hair for hundreds of dollars to ‘underpriveleged’ children. They also use less than 60% of donated hair to make the wigs for ‘underpriveleged children. The other just about 1/2 of the donated hair gets sold by locks of love to other extension/wig makers.
its a crappy organization that misleads people into thinking they are acutally doing something good for poor people, when in reality they just made a few hundred dollars for locks of love. Its not a non-profit organization…where does their money go?
