Blog Comment Spam
Published September 17th, 2006 in WordPressThe blog comment spam was getting out of hand where every day there was over thirty comments waiting in the moderation box. To no surprise, all of the comments were spam. I finally searched for a WordPress comments captcha plugin and found Peter’s Anti Spam Plugin. The installation process involved copying the files over to the blog plugin folder, then activating the plugin from the blog administration panel. Total time spent was two minutes.
You can also select different security words to display by editing the PHP file by using the plugin editor. It is fun to put in words such as viagra, cialis, and poker as the anti-spam words.

If you still need a more WordPress tools to fight comments spam, you can find it on WordPress Codex.
Update 09/29/2006: I am amazed at how well this little plugin takes care of all the spam bots since implementing it. No longer is the comments moderation box filled with junk. I rate this plugin five stars out of five stars.

nice example … funny to have that viagra as the anti-spam word …
Good thing coz right now “casino” is the word I have
Might as well have some fun with the spammers if they are really humans (I used all spam words for anti-spam, ironic huh?). Yours is the first message to make it to the moderation box after putting up the anti-spam word check.
