Automat is Back in New York City

Taking a break from technology? Then you need to visit Bamnfood for some automat nostalgia located at 37 St. Mark’s Place (between 2nd and 3rd Avenue). The new restaurant will be opening to the public on August 29, 2006. At the height of the automat history, a good meal only cost a few coins and fed over 800,000 customers daily. Today Bamnfood brings New Yorkers the same reality with great food at great prices replicated on a smaller scale. Tasty menu items are developed by The Water Club’s Executive Chef - Kevin Reilly.

Bamnfood was started with a trip to Amsterdam where the automat thrives with food sales in high traffic areas. The founder, David Leong, saw an opportunity and the rest is history in the making. Bamnfood’s location and type of service is a perfect match for busy New Yorkers who are always grabbing a bite on the go. The restaurant offers no seating; and ordering food is as easy as 1-2-3, even your kids will enjoy the experience. Simply deposit money into the food vending machine and select the freshly prepared food items - straight from the kitchen in the back. Then you are ready to continue your New York City lifestyle in hyperspeed without skipping a beat.

Bamnfood Automat

The restaurant has already generated some media buzz with FOX news picking up the story on August 9. A few newspapers have also written articles about the automat revival, so visit Bamnfood and take part in reliving the automat history with some quick eats.

Update 09/01/2006:  The news media all over are speaking fondly of Bamn Food bringing the automat back. Even the New York Times include a mention of Bamn Food in their dining and wine section.

  1. 1 New York Real Estate

New York city welcomes Bamnfood Automat into its diverse neighborhoods. It adds to its eclectic mix of artists and locals who live in the St. Marks area.

  2. 2 Richard Kennel

Lack of seating suggests a possibility that semi-private booths may have encouraged the survival of H&H.

  3. 3 Web Directory

Retail space in the cities are always at a premium. With the addition of private booths for H&H, it is very unlikely their automat restaurant would survive to this day.
