Al Jazeera Boycotted by US Cable Companies

November 15th 2006 marked the first day of Al Jazeera in English. http://english.aljazeera.net/ However, not one US cable company picked up the programming. Instead the only place you may find clips of Al-Jazeera news continues to be on YouTube (at least in English now). What does this say about US cable companies and the news we see? Americans are only shown news that are censored and approved by the US government.

Also, Al Jazeera English is not doing a good job on establishing a better web presence considering that a high bandwidth stream is only available for a subscription fee for $5.95 with the Real player. Their tech department needs to explore better alternatives in streaming video without making Internet users jump through hoops with installations of addition software for viewing videos. Think why YouTube is so popular because it is so easy, without requiring users to install anything. The Flash player is the backbone of YouTube.
